BDS supporters rap UK student leader for Coca Cola ties

The British National Union of Students voted to censure its president Megan Dunn on Monday for failing to fully implement the organization's policy on boycotting Israel. Dunn, who was elected as president in April this year, accepted a sponsorship deal for the NUS annual 2015 awards ceremony with Coca Cola.
Coca Cola has been one of the biggest targets of the Boycott, Divestment and Sanctions (BDS) movement because its local Israeli subsidiary has factories in areas over the Green Line. Dunn describes herself as a "drinker of diet coke" in her Twitter bio.
The NUS National Executive Committee voted 20 in favor, 14 opposed and 2 abstentions to censure Dunn and called on her to issue an apology. Some representatives boycotted the organization's annual awards event in protest - but calls to call off the event failed and the ceremony was held as planned earlier this month.
The NUS officially endorsed a boycott of Israel last August, and reaffirmed it in June. A second motion on how to go about boycotting Coca Cola was not discussed due to time constraints, but a vote on it will be held later.

The motion approved by the NUS stated: “To formally censure Megan Dunn, to mandate the NUS president and vice-president Richard Brooks to publish a formal apology stating that it was a mistake to accept Coca Cola's sponsorship.”
The NUS officially explained its position on Coca Cola and the boycott, saying: "The BDS policy is to ensure that, as far as is practical, NUS does not employ or work with companies identified as facilitating Israel's military capacity, human rights abuses or illegal settlement activity, and to actively work to cut ties with those that do. In aiming to ensure we meet this policy, NUS went to the official BDS movement to form our interpretation."
The NUS officers supporting the motion against Dunn said it was the union’s responsibility to ensure the boycott against Israel was implemented.
“There is thus a clear, direct line of accountability whereby Coca Cola, through its operations in Israel, is active within illegally occupied territory, in the process keeping occupation a viable exercise for the Israeli state.
However, BDS remains divisive, with Russell Langer of the Union of Jewish Students tweeting tonight that “Cases like this further Jewish Students’ concern that BDS policies can be implemented in ways that would discriminate against them”.
On Monday, British Prime Minister David Cameron also attacked the NUS, saying the organization had shamed itself by working with CAGE,  the advocacy group that  had previously been accused of being apologists for ISIS and Jihadi John, reported the  Huffington Post UK.
"And while I am it, I want to say something to the National Union of Students. When you choose to ally yourselves with an organization like CAGE, which called Jihadi John a ‘beautiful young man’ and told people to 'support the jihad' in Iraq and Afghanistan it really does, in my opinion, shame your organization and your noble history of campaigning for justice," said Cameron.
The Executive Committee also voted at the meeting to  support a major demonstration against austerity and in favor of free education, reversing a decision from a month ago. Many NUS branches feared an outbreak of violence at the protest events.

Ala'a Hamdan - anti-Freedom, anti-American and anti-Semitic BDS suporter

Ala'a Hamdan

Occupation: Student
University: UCalgary
Organization(s): SPHR (SJP), BDS
Close Connection(s):
Overview
Ala'a Hamdan is a student at the University of Calgary (UCalgary).
SPHR (SJP)
Hamdan is a member of Solidarity for Palestinian Human Rights (SPHR), an affiliate of Students for Justice in Palestine (SJP) and in 2014, she served as its president.
Hamdan was the focus of much concern voiced by local media and pro-Israel groups due to a string of bloody and violent Facebook posts glorifying martyrdom of Palestinians "living under Israeli occupation." In a "fictional story," she identified herself as a "Palestinian fighter" and wrote, "This land will be proud that Palestinian babies are born men and women ready to spill their blood." Based on this Facebook post and others with similar content, pro-Israel student groups commented that "...people are starting to feel more empowered to say things like this."
Hamdan's defense to these allegations was that her writing was taken out of context. She claimed that her Facebook posts, "were poetic writing, creative writing — whatever you want to call it."
Hamdan also accused the CEO of Starbucks of being "Zionist, like the CEOs of many other companies" within a discussion on the SPHR Facebook page with regard to whether to boycott the company.
Moreover, Hamdan publicly celebrated the early release of Palestinian terrorist Samar Issawi - who received a 26 year prison sentence for shooting at Hebrew University students and Israeli police in 2002
SJP was co-founded by Hatem Bazian and Snehal Shingavi in 2001 at UC Berkeley. Their intention was to advance the radical anti-Israel mission of the Muslim Students Association (MSA), but now masked as a secular organization.
SJP runs targeted and well-orchestrated campaigns against Israel including  Boycott, Divestment, Sanctions (BDS) resolutions,Israel-Apartheid initiativesdrives comparing Israel to Nazi Germanymock check-points"die-ins" as well as rallies and protests.
SJP chapters regularly host speakers who engage in language considered anti-Semitic by the U.S. State Department. Chapter events routinely include individuals and organizations who are linked to terrorist activity and call for violence against Jews.
SJP members frequently intimidate and harass pro-Israel supporters. Members have been responsible for physically assaulting Jewish students, vandalizing communal propertyand violently disrupting pro Israel speakers and events. Protests organized by SJP chapters regularly include hate-speech and chants such as "From the River to the Sea Palestine will be Free" - calling for the destruction of the Jewish State.
SJP demonizes and defames critics, branding attacks against them as “Islamophobic” - a term popularized by co-founder Hatem Bazian.
SJP, along with the MSA, is rapidly creating a hostile and unsafeenvironment on US campuses for all who do not share their radical anti-Israel views. For this reason, they have been labeled by some as “Hamas on Campus.”
BDS
Hamdan is a supporter of the Calgary campus Boycott, Divestment, Sanctions (BDS) movement. In her role as president of SPHR, she recruited a vice-president who would focus his efforts on the development of the Calgary BDS movement.
The BDS movement was founded in 2005 by Omar Barghouti. The movement is self-described as "a campaign of boycotts, divestment and sanctions against Israel until it complies with international law and Palestinian rights.”
Campaigns include compelling institutions and individuals todivest from Israeli-affiliated companiesacademic boycotts as well as physical rallies and protests.
The groups most notable achievement has been the infiltration of university campuses through lobbying for "BDS resolutions. In these cases, backed by university anti-Israel affiliates, the university student government has been brought to vote on some sort of boycott of and divestment from Israel and Israeli-affiliated organizations. These resolutions, although non-binding, have been passed by student governments on numerous North American campuses.
BDS activity is often aggressive and disruptive. It is documented that universities that pass BDS resolutions see a marked increase in anti-Semitism on campus. In 2013, the student government of the University of California Santa Barbara (UCSB) debated a BDS resolution. Reports emerged of threats of violence, the spitting on a female student senator, and theft of the personal property of anti-BDS activists. As a result, the student government chose to vote via a "secret ballot" in order to ensure their own safety.
Barghouti and the BDS movement are proponents of the radical "one-state solution" that has been denounced as a scheme to dissolve Israel as the Jewish State. Barghouti has been quoted as saying, "Good riddance! The two-state solution for the Palestinian-Israeli conflict is finally dead”, and that in a one-state “by definition, Jews will be a minority.”
The organization is affiliated with numerous anti-Israel groups worldwide, including ones that have been labeled terrorist organizations. The Jerusalem Post claims the BDS movement receives directives from Hamas and the Muslim Brotherhood and the movement is considered extreme even by Palestinian Authority president Mahmoud Abbas who stated his opposition to a BDS boycott of Israel in 2013.

BDS, SJP and the PA: It's time to get real

Let’s not fool ourselves.

When fighting the radical machine, our two biggest enemies are ignorance and misinformation. It’s the only explanation for a liberal democracy where everyone is respected being targeted as “genocidal racists”, while a people with a government promoting violence and terror are being hailed as sufferers of a “humanitarian crisis.” How else do you explain rockets hitting populations centers constantly over the course of over ten years being ignored, while a defensive war to eliminate the terrorist group Hamas is rewarded with condemnations from the UN and world opinion?

We live in a world where up is down and right is wrong, at least where Israel is concerned. And those who oppose them are wholly unconcerned with facts. They realize that the more they distort, and yell, and intimidate those who disagree with them, the more their message will win. They stage photos, manipulate and edit videos, fudge statistics, chant buzzwords and repeat lies over and over, until the uninformed listener believes it all to be true.It is so much easier to look at a doctored photo and believe it’s real than it is to do a bit of research and discover that dead baby is a casualty of the Syrian civil war and not the Israeli-Palestinian conflict. It’s a lot simpler to call Israel “an apartheid state” that practices “genocide,” rather than admit the fact that neither one holds a shred of truth. In the interest of making things easier, we came up with a few fallacies being perpetrated by those who would see Israel destroyed, and translated the truth behind their PR campaign. What do the Palestinian Authority want? A lot of discussion has focused on the worldwide consensus that what is needed is a “two-state solution.” While debates abound about what this would actually entail, the basis framework is “two states for two peoples- Palestinian and Israeli.” While there is significant data that a large majority of Jews are open to this prospect, a reliable 2014 poll shows that 70% of Palestinians would still demand one state if they got a two-State solution. And it goes without saying (but we need to say it) that Jews (and likely practicing Christians) will not be welcome in this new one-state of Palestine. The Palestinians really want and envision is a future state that is completely free of Jews, much like Gaza is currently. What does the Boycott, Divestment, Sanction (BDS) movement want? BDS is a very organized movement with a very shadowy end-goal. They are unclear whether companies from all of Israel should be boycotted, or just those from the “occupied territories.” Many are open with the true anti-Semitic motives behind BDS and want Jewish-made products in their entirety boycotted.Additionally, BDS supporters are selective in what products and innovations fall under the boycotting umbrella. While they are the first to demonize humus brands and skin-care products, they are less quick to give up their cell phones, internet devices, social media applications, vaccinations, and other Israeli and Jewish- pioneered innovations. They too advocate for a one-state solution, making the end goal of all this boycotting quite clear to those who are paying attention, but less so to the students blindly voting for the BDS resolutions on their campuses. What does Students for Justice in Palestine (SJP) want? Their name indicates a desire to gain “justice” for Palestinians, but what does this really mean? Is destroying Israel the only goal, or will they also fight for Palestinian justice from the violence of Hamas? "From the river to the sea Palestine will be free," is a common refrain heard at SJP rallies and gatherings. Aside from the odious implications of this slogan, how does this address the lack of justice Palestinians suffer at the hands of their own? How do they justify the injustice of Mahmoud Abbas, head of Fatah in the West Bank serving the 11th year of a 4 year term? What justice are SJP demanding on behalf of women and gay people in Gaza, demographics that suffer greatly at the hands of their friends and neighbors? Where is the justice for children who are taught from birth that the highest honor for one’s family is to kill innocent Jews in terror attacks, and are posed with machine guns at “terrorist training summer camps” which one can easily see in thousands of online pictures? Why is the focus of SJP only ever on the destruction and demonization of Israel above all else? Why do SJP Chicago and Loyola openly support convicted terrorist-murderer Rasmeah Odeh? Why does a group which prominently features the word “justice” constantly make news for the rampant violence and intimidation they bring to campuses? We need to open our eyes and ears and stop supporting hate-fomenting ideologies that infiltrate our youth and incense them to violence and hate crimes, specifically on our campuses with certain professors and organizations that encourage such ideologies. We need to open our eyes and the eyes of our peers to reality. It is comforting and self-congratulatory to “root for the underdog,” but when the underdog is actually a dangerous movement rooted in terror, violence and fear, there is no glory in supporting that side. When the Palestinian leadership announces on their television stations time and again that Israel must cease to exist and a one state solution is the goal, believe them. When BDS accidentally uses the word “Jew” instead of “Israel” at a boycott rally, listen closely and take note. And when SJP schedules radical Islamic agitators and terrorists as invited guests, realize that their goal is not justice for Palestine, it is annihilation for Israel. Don’t be an uneducated pawn in the game of public opinion. Open your eyes, do your research and become informed. We need more of you out there.
